Nightingale

I would welcome your opinions. Before I take this painting any further I was wondering whether you think I should close it's beak! It is a nightingale and the idea was that they are known for their beautiful song, but my Aunt said it look startled and now I am worried. What do you think?

Wonderful composition. I think it looks alert and lively, and yes, like it is speaking to us or about to sing.

Thanks Katherine... it will be interesting to see if anyone else has an opinion! I appreciate your help.

Hi Lynne, I looked back at some of your other birds and what struck me wasn't the difference in the beaks, but the difference in the eyes. This one has a much more prominent eye (startled in your aunt's terms)and that is what I notice, not the beak. Does that help? What do you want to be important?
PS i do like the idea of it being ready to sing.

Yes, you are right Loriann... I will soften the eye, definitely. I haven't wanted to take the painting too far because I was still undecided about the beak! So far everyone except one person has said leave the beak! Thanks for your help.

Lynne, I love this painting. This beautiful nightingale is practicing for a night of glorious arias. The little river is a perfect metaphor for the birdsong, as it has melodic rhythm, grace, and flow.
We miss you!
